History

Mound Laser & Photonics Center, Inc. (MLPC) began as part of the defense conversion of Mound Laboratory in October 1995. The company was subsequently purchased in 1998 by Laser Fare, Inc. of Smithfield, Rhode Island. After about three and a half years, Dr. Larry R. Dosser purchased the company back from Laser Fare in order to pursue the direction of laser-based microfabrication; the direction the company pursues to this date. At the time of the purchase, MLPC had 3 employees and a part-time bookkeeper, occupied about 3,000 square feet, and had one laser workstation. Five years, later the company had grown to 20 employees, 10,000 square feet of laboratory and office space, and ten laser workstations; two micromachining--picosecond and nanosecond, three laser marking, four laser welding and one high-speed welding system.

MLPC is a service-based company specializing in laser-based micro and nanofabrication and provides laser machining services in numerous markets including medical device, microelectronics, automotive, aerospace, consumer products, fuel cells, and defense. The company became ISO 9001:2000 registered in January 2007.
