Laser Surface Texturing

Process Overview
The process was developed through MLPC R&D efforts to create customer surface feature geometries. These geometries range in size from 5 to 200 microns and include hemispheres, squares, lines, and divots. The process allows these geometries to be directly written into the customer supplied part or material. Laser surface texturing has been used on metals, ceramics, and composites. The process allows for improved tribological response, increased surface area, and improved and reduced biological adhesion.


Surface texturing is a process that works well for defense and medical applications. Example applications include implant surface modification and increased wear-life on aircraft engine components.
