Mound Laser & Photonics Center, Inc. (MLPC) began as part of the defense conversion of Mound Laboratory in October 1995. The company was subsequently purchased in 1998 by Laser Fare, Inc. of Smithfield, Rhode Island. After about three and a half years, Dr. Larry R. Dosser purchased the company back from Laser Fare in order to pursue the direction of laser-based microfabrication; the direction the company pursues to this date. At the time of the purchase, MLPC had 3 employees and a part-time bookkeeper, occupied about 3,000 square feet, and had one laser workstation.
Today, MLPC has overĀ 40 employees, greater than 12,000 square feet of laboratory and office space, and seventeen laser workstations; three micromachining--picosecond and nanosecond, three laser marking, five laser welding, two laser microcutting/machining and one high-speed welding system.
MLPC is a service-based company specializing in laser-based micro and nanofabrication and provides laser machining services in numerous markets including medical device, microelectronics, automotive, aerospace, consumer products, fuel cells, and defense. The company is ISO 9001:2008 Registered and ISO 13485:2003 Registered.
